Ancelotti sees end to Everton’s Anfield hoodoo

Carlo Ancelotti says Saturday could be the “right time” for Everton to end their wait for a Merseyside derby win at Anfield (Match Betting – Liverpool 9/20, Draw 18/5, Everton 11/2).

The seventh-placed Toffees (10/3 Top Four Finish) cross Stanley Park to take on city rivals Liverpool aiming to win in front of the Kop for the first time since Kevin Campbell scored the only goal in a 1-0 win in 1999.

Saturday’s 238th edition of the “friendly derby” could prove the perfect chance for Everton to end their Anfield hoodoo. Liverpool have struggled in recent weeks and while they beat RB Leipzig 2-0 in Budapest on Tuesday, a slew of injuries mean serious doubts remain over Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Ever the diplomat, Ancelotti is unwilling to talk his side up too much ahead of the game and admits they will need to match their rivals across the park to come away with anything.

An improvement on defeats to Fulham and Manchester City, results that have left them three points and a place behind their neighbours, will undoubtedly be required but the 61-year-old appears quietly confident ahead of the match.

“It is important to be focused on what we are going to do in the game, the strategy of the game, to be brave and confident,” said Ancelotti. “And to try to play football.

“To play against Liverpool, you have to compete at the level they are used to putting in the games.

“Every game you play against Liverpool for Everton you want to win. It could be the right time tomorrow.”

Betfred are offering a host of #PickYourPunt offers on the game, with 6/4 for the Toffees to hit the woodwork, while 5/2 is available on them to have two or more corners in each half.
